The course has a modular, semester-based structure that allows the student a degree of flexibility in the choice of final specialist options. Upon entry to the first year, students are directed towards Studio Performer or Studio Producer pathways through the course on the basis of entrance tests, profile and interview.

The Centre particularly welcomes students from overseas and students aged 21 or over, who, in lieu of formal academic qualifications, have the relevant experience and can demonstrate the necessary motivation, knowledge and potential to follow the course successfully.
All candidates should be able to sightread, have a good understanding of chords, scales, modes, rhythms and harmony, and have the ability to transcribe ensemble performances. Applicants may be tested in these areas and may be auditioned on the instrument they wish to study. While all applicants are expected to be competent instrumental performers and have some knowledge of acoustics and the principles that govern the creative use of music technology, they must be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in their preferred pathway.
How to apply:Admission to the BA(Hons) Popular Music and Recording is through the University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). UCAS application forms can be obtained from schools, colleges, libraries or direct from: UCAS, Overseas students can obtain advice by contacting the British Council in countries where an office exists.
