Teaching Experience:1994 - Senior lecturer in Popular Music. Head of Jazz Performance.1991 - 1993 Lecturer in Popular Music, University College Salford. Teaching in the areas of Composition, Arranging, Aural and Transcription and Improvisation. 1989 - 1990 Instrumental tutor - Jazz Piano, University College Salford. 1990 - 1991 Part-time lecturer in Arranging and Composition, University College Salford. Performance Activity:1983 - 1985 Professional work with jazz-rock band "Pipedream", extensive UK tours and recordings (Piano/Keyboards/Vocals)1985 - 1988 Studio work, performing and producing recordings for Lisa Stansfield, Rikki Patrick, Des Tongue. Session work for advertising and independent radio packages. Theatre musician/musical director in Rexus Production's "Mantombi" - Wilmslow and Croydon. Recording and live work with "Sad Cafe" and "Soul Train". Community musician with Manchester Community Arts Workshop. 1989 - 1990 Recordings of own songs for "Split Decision", "Look Twice" and Dionne Estes. Piano/keyboards session work for BBC insert recordings (wide variety of North West session ensembles). Jazz/Rock pianist for special projects with Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra and Manchester Camerata. 1991 to present Formed jazz quartet providing broadcast material for BBC radio. Conductor of Stockport Stagesound and Elmfield Brass Band. Musical Director of Salford University Big Band (Salford University) giving concerts in Salford and Crete (1993). Jazz performances with the Andy Cuss (trumpet), Martin Taylor (guitar), Gary Cox (saxophone), James Morrison (multi- instrumentalist)
Compositional Activity:1983 - 1986 Songwriting with Dave Melia for Tamla Motown's publishers "Jobete". Incidental music for Granada TV's "Weekend". Composition of African musical "Mantombi" with Paul Young. Advertising music for local and independent radio including GMR and Piccadilly Key 103. Songwriting projects with Lisa Stansfield and Ian Devaney.1987 - 1994 "Sonatina for Cornet and Band"(for Tony Wyatt); Songwriting for Ian Wilson / "Sad Cafe"/ Mike and the Mechanics/AJ Sly/Look Twice/Split Decision/Sandie Shaw; BBC TV "The Late Show with Clive James"; Regular BBC network broadcasts of arrangements made for "Burnished Brass", "Strawberry Fair", "The Beergardeners", "Sweet & Blow", "50/50", "Percussion Plus", "Scherzando","Gentlemen and Players" and "The Radio Big Band". Other broadcast works written and arranged for many distinguished soloists with the Radio Orchestra including Don Lusher, Maurice Murphy, Tommy Whittle, Ronnie Scott and Kenny Baker. Published works for Male Voice Choir (Max Music). Works commissioned for Brass Band, Wind Band, Big Band, Orchestra, and small ensembles performed internationally by bands including Williams Fairey, Leyland Daf, Laportes, Salford College(Jazz and Brass), Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra,The Band of the Blues and Royals, The Armedeon Brass Trio, Halle Orchestra (Proms 1989), Andy Prior/Night Owls Orchestra, Calderdale Youth Symphony Orchestra,Hot Strings, Archangel Orchestra, Dave Hassell/Burger Sulsbruk, Huddersfield- and Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras, Steven Mead(Euphonium). Music Associate and Composition work for Film and TV include 1988:"Home Run"(BBC Films), "Lets Face the Music"(Yorkshire TV),"Capsticks Law"(Messenger TV), "Ben Rosie and the Bear"(Channel 4 TV); 1989:"My Secret Desire"/"Children's Ward"/"This Morning"(Granada TV), "The Look of Love"(BBC North West), "A Sense of Guilt"(BBC Films).
