Chjair of Popular Music.

Sheila Whiteley is based in the Music Department at Salford University where she heads up Research and Postgraduate Studies. She is a popular musicologist and author of 'The Space Between the Notes' (Routledge, 1992) which examines psychedelic coding in the progressive rock of the late sixties. Her interest in music as metaphor for drug-related experience has been extended through an analysis of Ecstasy and Rave culture. She is also interested in the relationship between popular music, sexualities and gender and is currently editing a compilation of articles which will come out under the title 'Sexing the Groove'.
